Lao Cai is a mountainous northwest and frontier province, with rich and multi-ethnic culture, famous for many highland unique markets with special features such as: Muong Hum, Y Ty (Bat Xat district); Coc Ly, Bac Ha, (Bac Ha district); Can Cau (Si Ma Cai District); Cao Son, Pha Long, Lung Khau Nhin (Muong Khuong district) ...

The fairs in each districts through the province is held skewly during the week from Monday to Sunday, so tourists to Lao Cai can visit and experience the fairs. Specific fairs are Ban Phiet on Monday, Coc Ly on Tuesday, Cao Son on Wednesday, Lung Khau Nhin on Thursday, Chau on Friday; Can Cau, Pha Long and Y Ty on Saturday; Bac Ha, Muong Khuong, Si Ma Cai and Bat Xat on Sunday. Lao Cai fairs attracts tourists by the unique culture of the ethnic minorities.It is not only a place for trading but also for meeting and exchanging emotion of the soul mate, for dating of man and women through the villages. On the fairs, all the way around, each ethnic group with unique costumes ethnic groups creat vivid picture for highland.

Can Cau (Si Ma Cai) is the largest bufalo fair of the northern mountainous provinces.

Bac Ha market is the only fair where have the dedicated areas with hundreds of horses trading every session. It also attracts tourists by famous Ban Pho wife which are distilled from yeast made of forest leaves and cooked with water over a thousand meters high. Come to Bac Ha market, tourists can enjoy specialties such as sour noddle soup, men men, Thang co ... Especially, visitors can gaze the unique costumes of Hmong ethnic.

 

Go to Coc Ly Market, visitors will have the opportunity to take a boat up the Chay river and gaze the wild natural scenery along the river.
