During the Lunar New Year holiday of At Ty in 2025, Lao Cai welcomed about 370,806 visitors. Total revenue from tourists reached 1,342 billion VND.
During the 9-days of Lunar New Year holiday in 2025, Lao Cai province welcomed 343,107 domestic tourists and 27,699 international tourists (77,121 day visitors and 293,685 overnight visitors), an increase of 39% over the same period in 2024.
The cumulative number of visitors this year reached 1,474,614, including: 1,330,557 domestic tourists and 144,057 international tourists (459,826 day-trippers and 1,054,212 overnight visitors), reaching 15.14% of the 2025 plan.
Total revenue from tourists reached 1,342 billion VND, of which total revenue from international visitors reached about 126 billion VND, total revenue from domestic visitors reached about 1,215 billion VND, an increase of 49% over the same period in 2024 (900 billion VND). Accumulated revenue for the year reached 5,081 billion VND, reaching 11.42% of the 2025 plan.
The occupancy rate of hotel rooms in the whole province is estimated at about 70 – 75% (in particular, at Sa Pa National Tourist Area, it is about 90 – 95%). The occupancy rate of 3-5 star high-end hotels and resorts on the 2nd and 4th days of Tet is over 95%. For unclassified accommodation establishments including hotels, motels, and homestays, the estimated occupancy rate is about 70 – 75%.
Also during the recent Tet holiday, most accommodation establishments in the province strictly complied with legal regulations and there was no price increase or price gouging.
According to statistics, Lao Cai is one of eight localities with tourism revenue during Tet exceeding the trillion mark, including: Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Khanh Hoa, Kien Giang, Quang Ninh and Ninh Binh.
