OVERVIEW OF LAO CAI TOURISM (Part 2)
BAC HA – ALLURING 4 SEASONS
Covering an area of 686.7 km² and an average elevation of 800–1,000 metres above sea level, Bac Ha is renowned for its natural and historical beauty. Known as the “White Plateau”, Bac Ha is ablaze with pure white Tam Hoa plum blossoms every spring. The area enjoys a temperate climate all year round with average temperatures ranging from 24–28°C.
Notable cultural and historical sites include Trung Do Citadel, the architectural wonder of Hoang A Tuong Palace and Bac Ha Temple. This mountainous district is home to 14 ethnic groups, creating a colourful mosaic of cultural traditions. Bac Ha’s famous highland markets feature vibrant festivals, including thrilling traditional horse racing events and captivating performances such as the soulful xoe dance, joyful sinh tien movements and the powerful melodies of the Hmong khen flute.

MUONG KHUONG – TRANQUIL MOUNTAINS AND RIVERS
Located 50 km Northeast of Lao Cai city, Muong Khuong district is blessed with a unique terrain and climate. The historical development process has brought to this land spectacular landscapes associated with legendary stories, such as Ham Rong cave, Na Mang cave, Tung Lau – Na Bu field, Lung Pau cave, Tien Nam Oc cave, Muoi Nga cave, Ma Tuyen cave, Ta Lam waterfall, Veng Leng waterfall.
With a temperate climate, Muong Khuong is home to the most famous agricultural specialties of Lao Cai, known to domestic and international tourists such as: Seng Cu rice, chili sauce, Seng oranges, sausage, smoked meat, yellow soybeans, Ban Lau pineapple, Shan Tuyet Ta Thang tea, Cao Son plums, Pha Long pears and traditional horse soup Thang Co.
As the homeland of 23 ethnic groups, Muong Khuong preserves many unique folk and cultural values. Visitors to Muong Khuong can immerse themselves in the pristine and majestic natural landscape, explore the rich cultural heritage and enjoy the famous specialties of this peaceful “Land of Dragons and Fairies”.
BAT XAT – THE LEGENDS OF THE GODS
Bat Xat, where the Red River flows into Vietnam, is blessed with majestic natural beauty and majestic mountain ranges.
Exploring Bat Xat, visitors will see ancient primeval forests with rare flora and fauna in the highland communes of Y Ty, Muong Hum and Den Sang. Muong Vi National Scenic Area is a cluster of caves that is considered a “heaven on earth”. In Lung Po (in A Mu Sung commune), visitors can admire the legendary beauty of the “border junction” where the Red River flows into Vietnam. Bat Xat has picturesque terraced fields in communes such as Y Ty and A Lu, as well as poetic streams such as Muong Hum Stream and the romantic Den Sang Love Stream. The vast rice fields in Coc San, Coc My, Trinh Tuong and Muong Vi produce fragrant and sticky rice, best enjoyed with local Sim San and San Lung rice wines, preserving the quintessence of heaven and earth.
Bat Xat’s traditional markets still retains the unique identity of ethnic minorities, vividly reflecting the lifestyle of the community. This is the place to conquer the peak and explore the mysteries of the gods in the “Rainy Land” of Y Ty.
