Preparing for the cherry blossom season at O Long Sa Pa tea hill.

Sapa cherry blossom in November seems to be the top concern when traveling this season, because this is the most ideal time to explore the city in the mist, where the hills are brilliant with pink cherry blossoms.

Time

Similar to Dalat cherry blossom, Sa Pa cherry blossom is not a Japanese cherry blossom (Sakura) but a single flower with 5 petals similar to apricot blossom belonging to the genus Cerasus). Therefore, calling this flower of Vietnam “cherry blossom” is the most correct way to call it today. Cherry blossoms usually bloom in late winter and early spring, starting from mid-November to the end of January of the following year. Although the blooming period is not long (about 3-4 weeks), depending on the terrain and soil, the blooming time in the same area will be different, so you can see cherry blossoms in Sa Pa blooming throughout the winter.

Beautiful places to see cherry blossoms in Sapa

Sa Pa grows a lot of cherry blossoms, so in general, when the season comes, you can see the flowers blooming scattered on the streets. However, there are many places where cherry blossoms are concentrated in large clusters, creating a beautiful pink sky when blooming. However, the most beautiful place to see cherry blossoms in Sa Pa is O Long tea hill. This tea hill is famous for having many beautiful cherry blossoms. O Long Sapa tea hill is located along National Highway 4D, about 7km northwest of Sapa town center, Lao Cai, the road is beautiful and quite easy to travel.

Cherry blossoms in O Long tea hill are planted interspersed with green tea trees. When the flowers bloom brilliantly, adorning the green tea hills, the scene becomes even more attractive and majestic. This picturesque scene captivates anyone who comes here. The best thing is that on foggy or low-cloud days, you will be able to admire the spectacular scenery more than ever. The two most suitable time frames for tourists to take photos of O Long tea hills in cherry blossom season are early morning (around 6:30 – 8:00) and before sunset (around 3:00 – 5:30) – this is when the sun is low, the sunlight shines obliquely, highlighting the pink color of cherry blossoms.

The road to O Long tea hills is generally easy to travel, but when arriving, the distribution of visitors is still quite complicated and there is no specific policy. The day I went, there were many large tourist vehicles on the road but there were no specific instructions for the entrance. Most people chose to ask the locals to lead them in through the paths from the family tea garden because this is not really a tourist attraction so there is no entrance fee. Instead of buying tickets, you can buy Oolong tea packages as gifts. The Oolong tea hill is very large but quite low and easy to walk on. The hill stretches out with many paths shaded by bright pink cherry blossoms. It will probably take 2 hours to walk around and take pictures of the whole area. If you just come to see the flowers and take pictures in a few small areas, it will take about 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on your needs.
